Cellist Mara Kochendörfer was born in Weimar in 1983 into a musical family and started cello playing at the age of seven. In 1999 she made her solo debut with the ‹Philharmonisches Orchester Gera-Altenburg›. She received her musical education at ‹Hochschule für Musik 'Franz Liszt' Weimar› and at ‹Conservatoire National Supérior de Musique et Danse› in Lyon/France and got musically inspired by masterclasses with international artists such as Michael Sanderling, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Erkki Lahesmaa and Aldo Mata.
As a cellist she feels drawn to chamber music and played premiere performances of several contemporary compositions by modern Thuringian composers.
Engagements include significant German orchestras as the ‹Staatskapelle Weimar›, ‹Hessisches Staatsorchester Wiesbaden›, ‹Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Mainz› and ‹Stuttgarter Philharmoniker›. She also plays regular extra work with ‹Opern- und Museumsorchester Frankfurt›, ‹Nürnberger Symphoniker›, ‹Mitteldeutsches Kammerorchester›, ‹Philharmonisches Orchester Gera-Altenburg› and ‹Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie› under renowned conductors such as Marek Janowski, Michail Jurowski, Carl St Clair, Jac van Steen, Patrik Ringborg, Marc Piollet, Gregor Bühl, Anu Tali, Ruben Gazarian, Gabriel Feltz and Marcus Bosch.a
